This academic study, titled 'The State in the Thought of Emir Abdelkader (1832–1847)', analyzes and establishes the political and institutional thought of Emir Abdelkader El Djezairi. It examines the experience of building the modern Algerian state and the foundations of its sovereignty amidst the resistance against French colonization. The thesis highlights his intellectual and ideological reference points—rooted in Arab-Islamic heritage and blended with national values and Sufism—while reviewing the institutional, administrative, judicial, military, and educational organization, as well as the economic, financial, and diplomatic systems he established to demonstrate his state's legitimacy and regional and international independence. Furthermore, the study analyzes the political and social conditions at the end of the Ottoman era in comparison with the Emir's foundational achievements, emphasizing that his project was not merely a defensive jihadi movement, but a reformist renaissance project that shaped the contours of modern Algerian identity and nationalism.
