Exploring Translation and Cross-Cultural Communication in Algeria

Abstract

Translation is integral to Algeria’s complex multilingual landscape, where Arabic, French, and increasingly English coexist. This paper examines the historical development of translation in Algeria, from the colonial era through the Arabisation movement to the current multilingual context. It focuses on translation's impact across sectors such as education, media, trade, and diplomacy. The paper explores the challenges faced by the translation sector, including the ongoing dominance of French and the rising prominence of English. It also considers the future potential of translation in fostering cross-cultural communication.
