اكتسب حق حرية الحصول على المعلومات وتداولها أهمية كبيرة، لارتباطه بحق الإنسان في المعرفة والذي نصت عليه مختلف المواثيق الدولية، وتمت بلورته في إعلان المبادئ الصادر عن القمة العالمية لمجتمع المعلومات، لأنه يعمل على تعزيز الشفافية والديمقراطية في الدولة، ولحق الحصول على المعلومات وتداولها أهمية كبيرة في الدور الذي يؤديه الإعلام في مجال مكافحة الفساد، إيجابا وسلبا لارتباطه بقدرته للنفاذ لمصدر هذه المعلومات.
